John was born and raised in the Los Angeles area. He studied fine art as a young man with a focus on painting. He later earned a 2nd degree in Mechanical Engineering from California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo. The urge to unite his early artistic endeavors with the technical skills and problem solving techniques used in his engineering career eventually led him to fine art photography as a creative outlet.
